Nanaimo RCMP investigating fatal rural car crash.

Shortly before 9:00 am on Saturday morning, Nanaimo RCMP attended the scene of a serious single motor vehicle collision on Nanaimo River Road near Nanaimo Lakes Deadwood campground.

On Saturday December 16th, 2023, the Nanaimo RCMP received information regarding a single vehicle collision on Nanaimo River Road approximately 15 kilometers west of the Trans Canada Highway.

General Duty patrol officers along with the BC Ambulance Service and crews with the Nanaimo Fire Rescue attended the scene in rural southwestern Nanaimo. Investigators are currently working with the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the BC Coroner Service as two individuals were confirmed deceased at the scene.

Nanaimo River Road will be closed in both directions near Deadwood Campground and there is no available alternate route around the police investigative scene at this time. The BC Coroner Service has taken carriage of the investigation and no foul play is suspected.
