Surrey shooting victim in Whalley area succumbed to injuries

Surrey: The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is investigating a shooting incident in the Whalley area which has now become a homicide.

Background: On May 21, 2022, at around 9:49 a.m., Surrey RCMP responded to shots fired in the 13700-block of Grosvenor Road. Upon arrival, Front line officers found a male victim suffering from serious injuries and had him transported to local area hospital for treatment. On May 25, 2022, the victim succumbed to his injuries. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken conduct of the investigation.

To advance the investigation and identify witnesses and associates, the name of the victim is being released. The victim is 58-year-old Michael Gordon Brown, of Surrey. Homicide investigators believe this was an isolated incident, not random, and not connected to gang activities.

IHIT is working in partnership with the Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service. Scene and vehicle searches are continuing as is the examination of evidence collected. The neighbourhood canvass is continuing for witnesses and CCTV.

We’ve accumulated much information thus far but are still looking for witnesses, said Sergeant David Lee of IHIT, we are looking to speak with anyone who knew of Mr. Brown’s activities.

IHIT is seeking dashcam footage or CCTV from the area within the 13700-block of Grosvenor Road around 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on May 21, 2022.
