On December 10, 2024 at 00:53am, Port Alberni RCMP received a report from a Global Star SOS device signaling an SOS near Franklin River Road just south of Port Alberni. The device was associated to a 42 year old male, last known to reside in Nelson, BC.
Police attended the location of the SOS and conducted a search the areas of Museum Main and Thomas Main. The Alberni Valley Rescue Squad (SAR), were engaged to assist in the search.

At approximately 8:00am SAR located the male deceased a short distance from his campsite. Due to location and terrain, the male had to be air lifted by helicopter. Police and BC Coroner Service officials attended and conducted an initial examination of the male and the scene. The were no indications of foul play and the male’s death is not considered suspicious.
The male’s family has been notified.
