On October 13th, 2024 at approximately 12:30 a.m., Agassiz RCMP we called to a serious motor vehicle incident on the 9500 block of Lougheed Highway. A vehicle and tractor trailer collided head-on resulting in the highway being closed for several hours. Lougheed Highway reopened later in the morning at approximately 10:00 a.m. and is operating with no delays today.
Agassiz RCMP, BC Emergency Health Services, and Agassiz Fire attended. The vehicle was occupied by a female driver, who was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the tractor trailer remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The Agassiz RCMP is working with Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) to determine the causal factors of this tragic incident. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased. I also want to extend my deepest gratitude to all the first responders who attended the tragic motor vehicle accident. Despite the heartbreaking outcome, their swift actions, professionalism, and dedication to duty in such difficult circumstances did not go unnoticed. Responding to incidents like these takes immense courage and resilience, and I thank each of them for their commitment to serving our community with compassion and integrity,
says Sgt. Andy Lot, Agassiz RCMP Detachment Commander.
