On Sunday, April 21, 2024 shortly after 5:00 am, RCMP received a 9.1.1. call where yelling could be heard. The caller advised that she and the suspect had gotten into a fight, and may be suicidal. The caller further added that there was a loaded firearm in the residence.

With the presence of a firearm potentially involved, and out of an abundance of caution, police sent up containment around the residence in the 8500 Block of 85th Street in the city.

While on scene, police evacuated two people from the residence who advised they had heard arguing, and confirmed the presence of multiple firearms in the home. The suspect remained in the home.

The North District Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called to assist. Negotiations deteriorated, resulting in ERT deploying a chemical irritant into the residence and the suspect was taken into custody without injury.

The suspect was later released on court compelling documents to appear in court at a later date and could face multiple charges.
