Shawnigan Lake RCMP confirms a fatal collision on the Trans Canada Hwy near Butterfield Rd in Mill Bay.
On February 29, 2024, at around 9:15 a.m., police received a report of a two-vehicle collision on the Malahat near Butterfield Rd. Initial evidence gathered at the scene indicated that a white Volvo made a left turn from Butterfield Rd and was struck by a black truck which was travelling southbound on the Trans Canada Hwy.
The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries. Sadly, the 17-year-old driver of the white Volvo did not survive the collision. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to have played a factor in the crash.
The highway was closed for a period of time while a collision analyst attended the scene. The highway was re-opened shortly after 1:00 p.m. on February 29, 2024.
The circumstances around the collision remains under investigation. Police are still in the process of speaking with witnesses.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP at 250-743-1549.
