Sooke RCMP is investigating after a pedestrian died as a result of being struck by a vehicle.
On February 29, 2024, around 5:30 a.m., Sooke RCMP received a report of a woman who had been struck by a silver GMC Sierra pick up truck in the 6900 block of West Coast Rd in Sooke. BC Emergency Health Services and Sooke Fire Department attended and attempted resuscitation efforts, however the woman, 42 years-old, did not survive.
The road was closed as the RCMP Collision Analyst attended to support the investigation.
The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with police. Alcohol or drugs were not a factor, however the driver of the truck was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention. The location of the victim prior to the collision remains under investigation.
Police were able to conduct the next-of-kin notification for the victim and sought the assistance of Victim Services.
Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact the Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5141.
