Break and enter
File 2024-442
On January 24 at 7am a woman reported that a neighbour to her they believed someone had broken into their vacant and dilapidated residence in downtown Salmon Arm. Police attended and found the foundation collapsed, and a tree through the roof. Police located two known unsheltered persons sleeping inside the residence, and were removed without incident.
Collision
File 2024-623
On January 31 at 10pm a man reported that a blue Jeep Compass had just struck his semi on Hwy 1 and Shuswap St. Police attended where the Jeep was still on scene with major front-end damage, blocking the right-side westbound lane. The semi had damage to a rear axel and fuel tank. The semi driver advised police the driver and two other occupants in the Jeep had run away on foot. Police obtained photos of the scene and surveillance footage from a nearby business that supported the semi driver’s claims that the semi was west bound with a green light on Hwy 1, the Jeep was southbound on Shuswap street and ran a red light and hit him, the Jeep occupants then fled on foot. About 30 minutes after the collision, the mother of the registered owner of the Jeep reported the vehicle stolen. Police spoke with the mother where she stated the Jeep was parked outside her residence and then was gone. She also stated she had called her son on his cell phone and he didn’t know where the vehicle was. Police advised that was unlikely as his phone was still in the vehicle and police were observing phone calls coming from mom
. The mother then can clean about her lie, and was cautioned for criminal public mischief. The mother then advised her 22-year-old son was driving and crashed, and that he was OK but did not know where he was. The 22-year-old driver of the Jeep was located the next day and was served violation tickets for fail to remain at scene of accident, fail to obey red light at intersection, fail to display N
, and drive contrary to restriction.
Road check
File 2024-455
On January 24 at 9pm Salmon Arm RCMP conducted a road check on Hwy 97B near Auto Rd. Approximately 30 vehicles were checked. One breath demand was read, where the driver blew zero. All other drivers found to be sober and with valid driver’s licences.
Assault
File 2024-460
On January 25 at 4am a woman reported a break and enter in progress at a residence in downtown Salmon Arm. Police attended and located a woman who nonchalantly informed police she had called. There appeared to be no emergency and no active break and enter. A male then presented himself and became aggravated police were there, indicating he had called for an ambulance, and not police. Police explained that although the man did call for an ambulance, due to the nature of the call police were requested by BC Ambulance. The male was uncooperative with police, but eventually alleged that two or three suspects had broke into the home and struck him with a club. The man sprayed the attackers with pepper spray, and the attacked left. The man continued to be uncooperative with police and refused to share any more details. BC Ambulance transported the man to a local hospital for further evaluation. Police believe the incident to be a targeted attack, with no further safety concerns for the neighbourhood.
Drive while unlicenced

On January 25 at 6am police stopped a pickup truck after police queries on the licence plate showed the registered owner to be unlicenced. The driver was confirmed to be the registered owner, and was served a driving prohibition, violation ticket for no driver’s licence, and a notice of 7-day vehicle impoundment. The matter was referred to ICBC.

On January 29 police observed a Dodge 1500 pickup with a known prohibited driver in the driver’s seat. Police engaged in a traffic stop and confirmed the driver’s identity. The owner was served a driving prohibition, and a notice of 7-day vehicle impoundment. The matter was referred to ICBC.
Theft
File 2024-503
On January 26 a woman reported that on February 22 she noticed her big heavy metal rooster was stolen off her porch on Okanagan Avenue. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Salmon Arm RCMP, please reference Salmon Arm RCMP file 2024-503.
File 2024-559
On January 29 a man reported his wallet was stolen from his vehicle that was parked on Fraser Avenue. Inside the wallet was a driver’s licence, disability card, and some store cards. File 2024-655
On February 2 staff at Uptown Askew’s reported there was an aggressive shoplifter that was currently pinned to the ground. Police attended and arrested the female suspect. Store staff advised they did not wish to pursue charges. The woman was provided a ride to a different location and advised not to return to the grocery store.
Fraud
File 2024-551
On January 29 a woman reported she had been defrauded out of $620. The woman reported she had arranged to purchase a bedroom furniture set over Facebook Marketplace and had etransferred the seller $620. After sending the etransfer the seller stopped responding to all attempts to contact them.
Impaired driving
File 2024-589
On January 30 at 4pm Salmon Arm RCMP located a Saturn Vue suspected to be involved in a theft. The female driver smelled of alcohol and a breath demand was conducted. The driver blew a warning
. The driver was prohibited from driving for 3 days, and her vehicle was impounded for 3 days. The driver was also found to have no valid driver’s licence and was served a violation ticket for that offence.
