On January 5th, 2024, Creston RCMP officers carried out an investigation into alleged crimes against a person involving the use of a firearm. The investigation led officers to obtain a Search Warrant for a property near Hwy 3 and Canyon-Lister Rd. Due to the nature of the alleged offences, the history of the suspect and the involvement of firearms, the Southeast District Emergency Response Team and Containment Team were deployed to assist.

At approximately 11:00 am, the teams converged on the property and very quickly brought the suspect into Police custody without incident. No members of the public, the police, nor the suspect were injured during the arrest.

Following the arrest, officers conducted the search of the property in accordance with the Search Warrant. Multiple firearms along with ammunition were located and seized. These firearms were loaded and stored unsafely, as well as altered in a fashion that is common in firearm possession for the purpose of committing crime.

Dwayne Robert Schickerowski (41), has been charged with; Uttering Threats to Cause Death, Possession of a Weapon for a Purpose Dangerous to the Public, Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Indictable Offence, Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Careless Use of a Firearm.

Schickerowski later appeared before the BC Provincial Court for the assessment of bail and was remanded into custody at a Provincial Correctional Center where he remains pending his next court appearance.

This was yet another dynamic investigation requiring delicate handling in the interest of public and police safety. I am grateful for the quick, thorough and appropriate response by my officers in bringing this dangerous individual into custody. Further, we are thankful for the work done by the Southeast District ERT and Containment Teams in bringing this matter to a conclusion safely for all involved, stated S/Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk.

We thank the public for your continued support.
