On Thursday, November 9, 2023 at approximately 8:15 pm, Fort St John RCMP responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on Highway 97 just south of 271 Road.

The pedestrian, dressed in dark clothing, was walking across the highway when they were
struck by a south bound vehicle. At the time, that area of the roadway was dark, with minimal lighting from industrial business in the area.

The pedestrian was deceased at the scene and the driver of the vehicle remained and is cooperating with police.

The investigation is ongoing to determine the contributing factors but police do not believe speed or impairment are involved. Highway 97 was closed following the collision while police, including the Collision Reconstructionist from Prince George, conducted a forensic examination of the scene.
