Kitimat RCMP weekly report October 5th to October 11th 2023

Refuse to leave:

The Kitimat RCMP received a call from a business located on the 500 block of Mountain View Square regarding a patron that was refusing to leave on October 5th. Kitimat RCMP officers attended and spoke with an intoxicated suspect. The suspect left the building, but refused to leave the property, resulting in them being arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in public. They were lodged in the Kitimat RCMP cells, being released without charge once sober. (2023-3844)

Minor vehicle collision:

Two drivers attended the Kitimat RCMP detachment on October 6th to report a minor fender bender that had occurred in a parking lot located on the 300 block of City Centre. It was reported that one vehicle had backed into the other, but the damage was very minimal. The drivers exchanged their information so a report could be made to their insurance companies as required. (2023-3858)

Bruin attempted break and enter:

During the evening of October 8th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of an attempted break and enter at a residence in the Whitesail neighborhood. The Kitimat RCMP officers attended and located a black bear that was across the street. It was determined the bear was the cause of noises that concerned the resident that someone was attempting to enter the house. Conservation was advised of the file. (2023-3888)

Erratic driving:

On October 9th, the Kitimat RCMP received a complaint regarding a vehicle that was driving erratically on Highway 37, heading to Kitimat from Terrace. The complainant was able to provide enough information that the vehicle was located by a patrolling Kitimat RCMP office. A traffic stop was conducted and it was found that the driver was not intoxicated. The officer gave the driver a verbal warning and discussed driving responsibly, pointing out that a complaint had come in due to how the vehicle was being operated. (2023-3895)

Hit and run collision:

The driver of a vehicle attended the Kitimat RCMP detachment on October 10th and reported that they had been involved in a hit and run collision. The driver stated they were parked in a parking lot on the 100 block of City Centre, sitting in their vehicle. Another vehicle ended up contacting the parked car. Both drivers got out of their vehicles and the suspect driver stated that there was no damage so they did not hit, so left the area. The first driver was able to record enough information of the suspect vehicle, allowing the RCMP officer to locate the vehicle. The driver was issued a violation ticket under the motor vehicle act for failing to remain at the scene of an accident. (2023-3909)

Backpack found:

On October 11th, a back pack that was found on the 700 block of Mountainveiw square, in Kitimat, was turned into the Kitimat RCMP detachment. Information pertaining to the owner was located within the bag, but attempts to contact the owner were negative. A file was located a few days earlier, from a neighboring detachment area, that this particular bag had gone missing. The RCMP officer leading that investigation was advised in hopes that the bag can be returned to the owner. (2023-3919)

Motorcyclists on sidewalks:

Over the past few months, the Kitimat RCMP has received several complains regarding dirt bikes being ridden in a dangerous manner in several Kitimat neighborhoods. Another report was received during the evening of October 11th. Patrols were conducted and the bikers were not located. The manner these motorbikes are being operated in is very concerning as there appears to be a total disregard for the safety of pedestrians and other road users. U13 basketball game:

Kitimat RCMP officers, Haisla Firefighters and parents took on the Haisla U13 basketball team at the Haisla Recreation Centre on October 11th. The adults took an early lead in the very spirited contest, however the U13’s put on a big push in the second half of the game and ended up winning with a score of 44-32. This was in preparation for their upcoming game against another northern team. Fun was had by all, and the youth certainly gave the adults a good run for their money. Good luck on your current season Haisla U13’s, thank you for the invite! The adult MVP for the game will be given to Kitimat RCMP Cpl Darren Gross.
