Disturbance 

On August 25th, officers were dispatched to a disturbance at the South end of town. Complainants advised that two men were charging at them with weapons. Officers attended but the culprits had since departed. While officers were obtaining statements, one of the men returned and started attacking another individual on the property. Officers located and arrested the man in question. The following day officers were alerted that the second man was on the ferries going toward Campbell River. Officers located and arrested the second man without incident. Troy Blue and Michael Knipstrom have both been charged with multiple offences and were released by courts with numerous conditions including to not return to Quadra Island. The matter is now before the courts. 

Driving complaint

On August 28th, BC Ferries staff advised of traffic incident at the Quadra ferry terminal. Staff advised a driver cut into the line and drove into the lane that was blocked off, narrowly missing the ferry worker. Staff confronted the driver who was not apologetic and was upset about having to wait for ferry traffic. Officers attended and spoke with the driver who denied the allegations. Ticket for "Drive without Consideration" contrary to section 144(1)(b) of the Motor Vehicle act, with a fine of $196.00 with 6 demerit points, was issued to the driver.

Marine patrols

On the September long weekend, officers conducted multiple proactive marine patrols, checking vessels for compliance with the Canada Shipping Act, Small Vessel Regulations, and Competency of Operators of Pleasure Craft Regulations. Multiple warnings issued for various infractions, including fail to license or register a vessel, defective safety equipment, and failure to have certain safety equipment on board. 

Unwanted trespasser

In the afternoon of September 8th, a complainant reported an intoxicated female refusing to leave her property. Officers attended and spoke with the complainant who advised the female, who may have been friends of the former owner of the property, had since departed.

Shoplifting file

On September 10th, staff at the Tru Value Foods reported a theft of liquor by two adolescents. Officers attended the culprits had since left and members were unable to confirm their identity through video surveillance. Later that day, members were updated by the complainant that the two thieves were located and going onto the ferry.  With the assistance of the Campbell River RCMP (and the complainant who was on scene to identity the youths), the individuals were stopped and arrested for theft. A search of their bags incidental to arrest produced the stolen liquor which was promptly handed back to the complainant. Parents of both the youths advised. Charges not be forwarded at this time.
