Two vehicle collision at Nancy Green Junction near Rossland

On Friday, June 7, 2023, at 9:12 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a collision between two vehicle at the Nancy Green Junction or the intersection of Highway 3 and Highway 3B, near Rossland, BC.

A 73-year-old Penticton woman driving a 2013 Honda Civic when she allegedly turned left from the stop sign on Highway 3B into the path of a 31-year-old Alberta woman driving a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu travelling near 100km/h straight ahead on Highway 3. The two vehicles struck each other resulting in considerable damage to the vehicle. The 31-year-old Alberta woman received a minor injury to her knee. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The 73-year-old Penticton woman was issued a $109 fine for making an improper turn at an intersection contrary to Section 165(5) of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

This is a good reminder that traffic significantly increases in our area in the summertime and to remain vigilant while driving. Drivers can be safer on the road by practicing defensive driving, maintaining proper speeds, and staying distraction free. Rise of the machines?

On Friday June 7, 2023, at 5:35 a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a report of a 34-year-old Trail woman, her two children, and their vehicle stuck inside an automatic car wash in the 800 block of Old Waneta Road, in Trail, BC. The woman and her children were able to exit the car wash without assistance; however, a property representative was needed to open the bay door to enable the vehicle to exit.

The door had reportedly been malfunctioning lately and was due for a repair.

Police hear and respond to single vehicle crash near Trail Detachment

On Sunday, July 9, 2023, at 6:57 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers heard a single motor vehicle crash on Highway 3B while standing outside in the parking lot of the Trail Detachment located at 3601 Laburnum Drive, in Trail, BC.

The officers discovered that a 32-year-old Trail man had crash a 2011 Jeep Wrangle into the cement barricade lining the highway. The Jeep was high centered became high centered on the barricade as a result of the collision. The officers conducted an investigation into possible impairment by the driver; however, it did not appear to be a significant factor in the collision.

The man claimed that he was temporarily blinded by the glare of the sun before veering into the barricade. The man was not injured and the vehicle was towed from the scene.

The officers discovered that the response to this incident turned out to be a balancing act. says Sgt. Wicentowich

Trail RCMP officer seized unstamped tobacco during traffic stop

On Sunday, July 9, 2023, at 8:32 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer was conducted a routine patrol when she detained a 35-year-old Calgary woman driving a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe roadside and checked her for a valid driver’s licence and insurance in the 1500 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC.

During the traffic stop, the officer seized 5 packages of unstamped tobacco cigarettes from the interior of the vehicle. The investigation into the unstamped tobacco continues.

It is illegal to possess unstamped tobacco in Canada and it can be seized by the police if you are found in possession of it. Trail RCMP has been receiving reports of unstamped tobacco being sold in the area. Unlicensed selling of tobacco can lead to charges and heavy fines under BC Tobacco and Vaping Product Act. says Sgt. Trail and Greater District Second Quarter Statistic Report for 2023

Highlights of report:

1. Theft from motor vehicle dropped from 32 (Q2 2022) to 17.
• Trail RCMP believes this reflects more people locking their vehicles to pro-actively prevent targeted theft.
2. Drug investigations dropped from 23 (Q2 2022) to 10.
• Trail RCMP believes that decriminalization of personal possession of drugs by the BC Government has led to less enforcement and arrests.
3. Motor vehicles collisions were up from 15 (Q2 2022) to 23, no motor vehicle fatalities occurred, and BC MVA violation tickets issued increased.
• Trail RCMP believes this reflects increase traffic and travel in the area.
• Trail RCMP and BCHP continue to patrol and conduct enforcement in an effort to make it safer for everyone to travel on our streets and highways.
4. Incidents involving mental health rose from 74 (Q2 2022) to 89.
5. Incidents involving alcohol and drugs from 78 (Q2 2022) to 117.
• Trail RCMP believe that this statistic has rose due to personal drug consumption incidents that mostly occurred in downtown Trail.
6. Incidents involving the checking on the well-being rose from 88 (Q2 2022) to 131.
• Trail RCMP is continually asked to check on persons who may be experiencing medical or other issues.
• Trail RCMP believes that this statistic includes an increase in checking on those who may be experiencing side effects of the highly potent local drug supply.
7. Incidents involving suspicious occurrences, people, and vehicles increased from 197 (Q2 2022) to 237.
• Trail and Greater District Area residents continue to observed and report on suspicious activity mostly occurring in downtown Trail and surrounding neighbourhoods.
