Shots fired 

In the early evening of June 6th, Quadra RCMP received a report of a shots fired in the South end of the Island. Officers conducted extensive patrols but were unable to locate the parties involved. Complainant updated.

Theft of crab traps

On June 27th, Quadra RCMP received a report of a theft that occurred at the Heriot Bay Inn Marina. The complainant advised his stainless steel crab trap, which was kept on the dock beside his boat, was missing. Video surveillance showed an unidentified man on the dock drinking a beer before taking the crab trap and leaving. The man is seen later that day back at the dock with a woman as well and may be associated with a boat called "The Star Ruby".

Fraud complaint on Facebook marketplace

On June 28th, Quadra RCMP received a report of a fraud on Facebook market place. The complainant advised she had reached out an individual on the Facebook buy and sell to buy an appliance. After transferring the money, the complainant realized the interaction seemed off and tried to get their money back, however, the money had already been transferred and the seller refused to give it back. The matter is still under investigation.

The Quadra RCMP are warning the public to be careful when buying or selling items on social media. We recommend looking at the online profile of the seller, meeting in a safe public space, and lastly withholding payment until you physically have the item.  

Annoying situation

On July 2nd, Quadra RCMP received a report from the Cortes ferry of an ongoing annoying issue. The crew advised that while they were docking on the Cortes side, someone would bring out a large mirror and start flashing SOS signals. The flashing was so distracting that it was actually obstructing the view of the crew on the bridge and impeding their ability to safely dock (which is an offence contrary to section 118 of the Canada Shipping Act). Officers attended and road the ferry with the crew on the bridge, and from there were able to determine the exact location of the residence in question. Officers spoke with the homeowner who was extremely apologetic and advised they had a flashing mirror in order to send signals to their grandchildren, and had been doing so for a long time. They had no idea that the flashing was causing any issues to the ferries and confirmed they would stop right away. The ferry crew were updated that the incident was an honest mistake and shouldn't be any issue going forward.
