On Monday, February 6, 2023, Terrace RCMP responded to a shots fired report at a rest stop near Kitwanga, BC.

It was reported that a pickup truck pulled into the rest stop, sped around in circles, flashed its high beam lights and stopped. The driver got out of the truck, approached a commercial vehicle parked in the rest stop and tried to open the door but was unsuccessful.

The suspect went back to the pickup truck, got a firearm and shot the gun several times into the bushes surrounding the rest stop. The suspect then got back in his truck and fled the area. The occupant of the semi was not injured.

The suspect vehicle was later located by Smithers RCMP near Kleanza Creek, over 80 kilometers from Terrace. Police attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, however the vehicle tried to ram the police vehicle, narrowly missing two other police officers. The suspect vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed headed in the direction of Terrace.

Police successfully deployed a tire deflation device, and the driver, a 30-year-old man, was arrested without further incident. The suspect could face numerous charges. The investigation is ongoing.
