Terrace RCMP review: November 21 to December 4, 2022

The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 349 calls for service between November 21 and December 4, 2022. Some of those calls are highlighted below:

Prohibited driver caught behind the wheel (2022-12161)
On the morning of November 23, while conducting routine traffic patrols, RCMP initiated a traffic stop finding the driver of the vehicle to be unlicensed. Further checks determined the man to be prohibited from driving and he was arrested for driving while prohibited. The officer processed him on scene, issuing him an Appearance Notice for court and the man was released shortly after.

N driver found operating impaired (2022-12179)
On November 23, while patrolling, RCMP conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle driven by a man with an N license. The man was requested to provide a breath sample which registered a FAIIL. The man was detained for further investigation and placed in the back of the police vehicle. The man chose to provide a second test which also resulted in a FAIL. His vehicle was towed by a local tow company to be impounded for 30 days and was given an immediate roadside driving prohibition for 90 days. In addition to this he was issued a violation ticket for driving contrary to restrictions.

Speeding in company truck (2022-12209)
On November 24, RCMP were conducting traffic patrols on Hwy 37 South and observed a company pickup truck speeding. The officer’s radar indicated the truck to be travelling at 140 kms/hr in a 100 km/hr zone. A traffic stop was conducted, and the male driver presented a valid class 7 (N) license. A breath sample was obtained from the driver which resulted in a warn. A second sample was obtained with the same result. The man was served with a Notice of Driving Prohibition for 3 days, Notice of Vehicle Impound for 3 days and a violation ticket for speeding and driving contrary to restrictions. The registered owner of the truck was advised.

Assault at local bar (2022-12238)
On the evening of November 26, RCMP received a report of an assault between two women at a local bar. Witnesses reported one woman assaulting the other with a cup or mug after an argument broke out. The assault resulted in injury to the woman’s face. Terrace RCMP are continuing to investigate this incident.

Woman stabbed, receives non-life-threatening injuries. (22-12281)
On November 27, before midnight, RCMP were called to a report of a stabbing outside a local shelter. The caller reported one man had stabbed a woman. Police attended and located the woman with a shallow stab wound to the lower back. Police later located and arrested the man for assault with a weapon. He was held for a bail hearing and remanded in custody. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to the wounds. Charges have been approved for aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm and breach of release order.

Phone Fraud by Gift Cards (22-12398)
On December 2, a woman reported that a man had called her on the phone requesting that she verify her credit card information in regard to some gift cards she had purchased and directed her to purchase $700 in Apple gift cards. The woman reported the fraud to police and notified her banking companies. RCMP want to remind the public not to provide banking information over the phone to unverified persons.
