Two-vehicle crash with injuries

File # 2022-5081

On Friday, November 4, 2022, at 6:52 a.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to a head-on collision between a 19-year-old Trail man driving a 2010 Chevrolet truck and a 62-year-old Salmo man driving a 1999 Dodge truck in the 2000 block of Highway 3B, in Fruitvale, BC. EHS transported both drivers to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment for treatment of their injuries, included that of the 19-year-old man’s broken ankle.

A RCMP officer conducted an investigation into the cause of the collision. The 19-year-old Trail man is alleged to have crossed the centerline of the road with his truck while travelling eastbound in the 90km/h speed zone and struck the oncoming 62-year-old Salmo man in his truck.

Speed and winter road conditions were believed to be factors in the cause of this incident.

Winter driving conditions are in full effect as we begin the month of November. Please slow down and drive according to conditions to help avoid losing control of your vehicle. We have had multiple motor vehicle incidents and rollovers these weekend in the West Kootenay. Remember that none of us are immune to the consequences of poor winter driving habits said Sgt. Wicentowich

Elderly Woman Armed and Cane-gerous

File # 2022-5100

On Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 12:04 p.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to the report of a 72-year-old Trail woman allegedly alleging assaulting employees with her cane at a business in the 700 block of Victoria Street, in Trail, BC. No one was injured in the incident. The employees contacted the Trail RCMP as they were concerned with the wellbeing of the woman in light of her unusual behaviour in the business.

The RCMP officer located and spoke with the elderly woman. The woman acted out after she became upset with the taste the chocolate bar she purchased and the fact that her lottery ticket turned out not being a winner. Trail RCMP escorted the woman off the property and to her residence.

We would like to thank the caring and kind staff for calling us to report this incident. Trail RCMP will refer it to a partnering agency who can provide support for the elderly woman. We hope that this support will prevent any further future incidents said Sgt. Wicentowich

Impaired Driver

File # 2022-5117

On Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 10:47 a.m. a frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officer responded to a complaint of a 42-year-old Trail woman and her passenger sleeping inside her parked and running vehicle in the 1300 block of Cedar Avenue, in Trail, BC.

During the roadside interaction, the officer believed that the woman’s ability to drive was impaired by a drug. The officer entered into an impaired driving investigation. A demand was read to the woman, who underwent a Standard Field Sobriety Test that resulted in a fail.

The 42-year-old Trail woman was issued a 24-hour Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) under section 215 of the BC Motor Vehicle Act.

Trail RCMP is focused on impaired driving enforcement as holiday season approaches said Sgt. Wicentowich

Drunk Dial to 911

File # 2022-5128

On Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 6:42 p.m. frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers were notified that an intoxicated 45-year-old Trail man had called 9-1-1 then refused to provide any information to the dispatcher.

Officers were able to locate the man’s home through the phone number that he had called 9-1-1. They attended his residence on Sixth Avenue, in Trail, and located him inside his home. After some verbal negotiations through the front door, the man eventually exited his residence and spoke to the officers. The RCMP officers discovered that the man had allegedly called 9-1-1 on his girlfriend after she had yelled at him for his level of drunkenness when she arrived home from work. His girlfriend was very surprise that the police were contacted about the incident as she was unaware that he had until the police arrived. Luckily for him, she volunteered to let him stay in the residence until he was sober.

Something tells me that this gentleman’s hangover will be the least of his problems this week said Sgt. Wicentowich
