Kitimat RCMP weekly report October 20th to October 26th 2022

The Kitimat RCMP were advised of a traffic compliant on October 20th. It was reported a vehicle was following behind another vehicle very close along Haisla Blvd, in Kitimat BC. The driver was located and warned about following too closely. As the weather is changing and its staying dark much longer during the day, the Kitimat RCMP would like to remind drivers to give yourself extra time to travel and extra room between vehicles for stopping.

Mischief under $5000:

During the late-night hours of October 20th, the Kitimat RCMP were advised of a mischief in progress on the 1000 block of Nalabila Blvd. Unknown persons had broken into an abandoned building and broke a window. Patrols were made, but all parties had departed the area.

Hit and Run:

On October 21st, 2022, a report of a hit and run on the 100 block of City Centre was received by the Kitimat RCMP. A witness saw one vehicle strike another, not leave information and leave. The registered owner of the vehicle was contacted, the driver was identified and received a violation ticket for failing to remain at the scene of the collision.

Intoxicated Driver:

While on routine patrol October 22rd, 2022 a Kitimat RCMP constable noticed a vehicle that was being operated in a manner that caused the constable concern on Lahakas Blvd. A traffic stop was conducted and an investigation into impaired operating of a vehicle was conducted. It was determined that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was given a three-day driving prohibition for driving and the vehicle was impounded.

911 not a joke:

A 911 call from a cell phone was received by the Kitimat RCMP during the very early morning hours of October 23rd. A follow up with the cell phone owner’s residence determined that a youth had made the 911 call, thinking it would be funny. The officer was relieved that there was no emergency, however an important lesson was taught that 911 is only for emergencies. The Kitimat RCMP would like to ask parents to explain to their kids that 911 is a very important tool and can only be used during emergencies.

Impaired Driver:

An impaired driving investigation resulted in a driver being prohibited from driving for 90 days on October 23rd, 2022. During the traffic stop, the driver provided samples of their breath which resulted in the 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. The vehicle was also impounded for 30 days.

Cracked window:

A report of a rock being thrown at a window during the morning of October 24th, 2022 was received by the Kitimat RCMP. The officers attended the residence located on Saguenay St and located a window that had been cracked from the rock. This matter is still under investigation to identify the culprit(s). Mischief to window:

Another broken window was reported to the Kitimat RCMP for a second day in a row on October 25th. It appears a rock had been thrown at a window in a residence located on the 800 block of Lahakas Blvd, in Kitimat BC. It is unknown when the window was broken, however a hole in the window and a rock was located nearby. Neighborhood canvasing to locate further evidence and to identify suspects was conducted.

Fender bender:

A minor collision between two vehicles in a parking lot on the 800 block of East Columbia Ave, in Kitimat BC was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on October 26th. Both drivers exchanged information and the damage was reported to have been minor.
