Police officers in the Kitimat area are always on the lookout for impaired drivers and now that summer is in the rear-view mirror, Kitimat RCMP wanted to share with you the exceptional work our officers completed this summer. A big thank you to the community members who called in reports of impaired driving. Together with the proactive patrols and our check-stops, Kitimat RCMP officers were able to remove over 40 impaired drivers off the road between June 1 and October 1, 2022.

In Kitimat, there was a total of 41 impaired drivers removed from the roadways. 24 of the 41 resulted in 90-day immediate roadside driving prohibitions. 2 of the 41 were due to motor vehicle collisions, 1 resulted in an investigation for impaired operation causing bodily harm. 6 of the impaired drivers were reported by community members and the remaining 35 were due to police proactively patrolling or conducting check stops.

It is important for people to realize that alcohol affects people in different ways. Factors such as diet, fatigue, and prescriptions can change how alcohol affects an individual. It is possible to be considered impaired while having a Blood Alcohol content below 0.08 percent.

If you are planning on drinking, please do not drive. By finding an alternative way home such as transit, cabs, or a designated driver you can help ensure that you, and people sharing the road with you, get to their destination safely.
