Ladysmith RCMP is investigating after a local food market employee was assaulted during a robbery.

On July 25, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., frontline officers with the Ladysmith RCMP responded to a local food market located in the 10000 block of Chemainus Road after receiving a 9-1-1 call requesting police assistance before disconnecting.

Upon attendance, officers met with the store clerk who advised they had just been robbed by a man who allegedly wanted to buy cigarettes, providing an ID, indicating the person was a minor. Upon being refused service, an altercation ensued where the suspect walked behind the counter and assaulted the clerk.

Police have not been able to locate the suspect and are turning to the public to assist in identifying the culprit identified as:

suspect wearing black shirt and black hat

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215.
