After the John Lalonde Roller Rink was vandalized, Corporal Evan Hobbs of the Masset RCMP quickly organized a clean-up of the community space. A small but motivated group gathered on June 26th and, for several hours, they scraped a significant amount of spray paint off the boards, washed permanent marker off a variety of surfaces, swept the floor, and collected garbage from around the facility.

At least one more clean up session will be required to remove the rest of the spray paint located in the washroom.

According to the Village of Masset web site, the John Lalonde Roller Rink is a covered area that can be used for tennis, pickleball, roller hockey, and other events. Washroom facilities are attached.

The Masset RCMP asks that the community continue to report graffiti to police. Research has shown that taggers are less likely to return to locations where they know that their tags will be quickly cleaned up. Don’t ignore the problem

Thank you to the following individuals, and their families, for coming out to help:

Brendan Nickle, Dave Reynolds, Dejah Busch, Derek Washington, Elicia Houle, Evan Hobbs, Karl Hystad, Stephanie Hobbs, Tando Dwyer and Victoria Grosse
