Port Alberni RCMP are urging drivers to leave their keys at home.
As the longer, warmer days, are approaching officers at Port Alberni RCMP detachment have already completed 37 investigations into impaired driving under either the Criminal Code or Provincial Immediate Roadside Prohibition program as of January 1 2022.
On March 28 2022, officers responded with Sproat Lake Fire Department and BC EHS, after a vehicle spun out at a high rate of speed. Officers conducted a thorough investigation, and determined the driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol. On scene, paramedics treated the three occupants of the vehicle, all were 19 years old or younger. The driver was later lodged in police cells and the passengers were transferred to hospital. The driver was prohibited from driving under the Provincial Immediate Roadside Prohibition program for a period of 90 days, and faces administrative penalties authorized by the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles and the Provincial government. If you are planning on drinking, please do not drive. By finding an alternative way home such as transit, cabs, or a designated driver you can help ensure that you, and others arrive safely
