On Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 6:30 am, Mackenzie RCMP were called to a report of a disturbance on Mackenzie Blvd in the community.

Upon arrival police quickly determined that the disturbance had become a missing person investigation with concerns for the health and well-being of the individual.

An adult woman had left in a vehicle, taking her four dogs with her. Police immediately called for the assistance of Search and Rescue, RCMP air support (Air 3) and Police Dog Service (PDS) as the search for the woman began.

Air 3 located the woman and her dogs a short time later at the 83 kilometer mark on the Parsnip West Forest Service Road. While ground units responded to the woman’s location, the roads were treacherous and extremely difficult to navigate.

Thanks to the help from the people in Mackenzie, the roads were plowed and made accessible for rescuers to get to the woman and her dogs.

Without the support of the citizens of Mackenzie provided to the emergency response personnel, this could have ended much differently, said Cst Jenny Fu, Mackenzie RCMP.

The woman had minor injuries and was taken to hospital for medical treatment. The dogs were reported to be in good health.
