Weekend report May 3 - 6

The Chilliwack RCMP Detachment responded to 320 calls for service between 6:00 am on May 3, 2024 and 4:00 am on May 6, 2024. Below are some of the highlights:

Griffin Security guard assaulted

On May 5, 2024 at approximately 10:00 pm the Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report that a Griffin Security guard was assaulted by a lone male. Griffin Security guards had asked the male to remove himself and his belongings from a private property in the downtown area. The male became aggressive and assaulted one security guard. Police were able to identify the male through investigative avenues. The male was located nearby and arrested, he was held in police custody to appear in court at a later time.

Chilliwack resident learns their tractor is stolen after passing it on the road

On May 5, 2024 a local farmer called the Chilliwack RCMP to report he had observed his own tractor being driven by unknown people in the Greendale area. The farmer approached the occupants of the tractor who then fled in a separate vehicle. After returning to his property with the tractor, the farmer noticed his barn had been broken into and other items had also been stolen. The Chilliwack RCMP is working with the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section to identify the thieves.

Single vehicle collision causes fuel spill on roadway

On May 4, 2024 at approximately 8:00 pm the Chilliwack RCMP attended a single vehicle collision that had resulted in the spillage of approximately 100 litres of diesel onto the roadway. The collision occurred at Lickman Road and South Sumas Road and involved a freightliner tractor and trailer. Chilliwack Fire and the City of Chilliwack attended to clear the spill from the roadway.

Numerous items taken from unlocked vehicle in residential area

On May 3, 2024 at 10:00 pm the Chilliwack RCMP received a report of a theft from a vehicle in the Garrison area. There were no signs of forced entry into the vehicle, suggesting the vehicle was left unlocked. Numerous items were stolen including a wallet, cash, identification cards, and a pair of head phones.

The Chilliwack RCMP want to again remind the public to lock their vehicles when unattended and to not leave valuables inside.
