The Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 206 calls between April 29 and May 5, 2024. Below are just a few highlights of calls for service received:

April 30, 2024 – Impaired, Unlicensed driver. At approximately 9:17 pm, an RCMP officer observed a vehicle driving in excess of the speed limit and conducted a traffic stop with the driver. One man was the only occupant of the vehicle and was found to be impaired by alcohol and prohibited from driving. The vehicle was determined to have been purchased several months earlier but transfer papers were incomplete and the vehicle was still registered to the previous owner. The man was detained for impaired operation and prohibited operation of a vehicle and was transported to the Terrace Detachment for further investigation. The man was served a notice of vehicle impoundment, driving prohibition, violation ticket for no insurance, wrong number plate, and released him with a court date for driving while prohibited and impaired operation. Police would like to remind the public that when selling a vehicle privately, to ensure that all transfer papers are completed correctly to ensure that ownership is transferred properly. (2024-3475)

April 30, 2024 – Police Dog tracks down B&E suspect. On the night of April 30, Police responded to a report of a glass break alarm at the Fairlie Café on Kalum Street however the suspect had already left the scene. Property representative was able to provide video surveillance promptly. Later into the morning hours of May 1, 2024, a second glass break alarm was received at the Staples on Greig Ave. The property representative identified that some cell phones had been stolen. Police Service Dog was engaged and was successful at tracking the suspect not far from the area. The suspect was in possession of the stolen phones and matched the description of the suspect at the Fairlie Café. The suspect was identified as Constant Lavoie and arrested. Charges have been approved for two counts of break and enter as well as one breach and one count of obstruction. At this time, Lavoie has been held in custody. (2024-3477/3482)

May 2, 2024 – In the wrong house. Before midnight on May 2, homeowners on Halliwell Ave contacted police to report an unknown man who had entered their house. The man was calm and non-violent, but appeared to be under the influence of drugs and firmly believing that he was in the correct house. The man was known to police and was arrested for break and enter and transported to cells. Due to the concern for his well-being, the Intensive Case Management Team (ICMT) services were engaged and he was released into their care.
