Search and Rescue mobilized when canoeist failed to check in

On March 20, 2024, Powell River RCMP received a report that a canoeist navigating the Powell forest canoe route had failed to check in with family for several nights.

Family reported that the canoeist had been checking in via GPS with his co-ordinates each evening and his family were worried that something had happened to him.

Powell River Search and Rescue (SAR) was mobilized and RCMP helicopter Air 8 joined the search late in the afternoon. SAR located the canoeist just before dark and determined that he was safe and uninjured.
