Firearms and ammunition seized in Warfield, BC

On Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 2:33 p.m., frontline Trail and Greater District RCMP officers responded to report of an abandoned side-by-side off-road vehicle and firearm located in a wooded area near a well-known bike path, in Warfield, BC. Officers attended the described location and recovered the vehicle, a shotgun, a submachine gun, ammunition, and other firearms related items. Officers learnt that the off-road vehicle was stolen from an area near Slocan, BC. Nelson Forensic Identification Section RCMP will conduct a forensic examination of the items seized.

The matter remains under investigation.

Sudden death in downtown Trail

On May 20, 2023, at 3:38 p.m., the Trail and Greater District RCMP, Kootenay Boundary Regional Fire Rescue, and EHS responded to a report of a person who appeared to be in distress in the 1600 block of Bay Avenue, in Trail, BC. An officer arrived first on scene and discovered that the person, a 52-year-old Trail man, was deceased. The officer interviewed a witness who believed the man consumed street drugs prior to his death. The cause of death is not yet determined; however, foul play is not suspected at this time.

The Trail RCMP turned the investigation to the BC Coroner Service.

Be on the lookout for 42-year-old Michael Struthers

Trail and Greater District RCMP is requesting assistance from the public in locating 42-year-old Michael Allan Struthers of Castlegar, BC, who has an outstanding unendorsed BC Warrant of Arrest for Assault contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code. On April 24, 2023, Struthers disappeared from his residence after cutting off his ankle monitor bracelet and fleeing his place of residence. He is believed to be in the Trail area and may be driving a blue older model Subaru with no muffler bearing BC licence plate SV055S. This vehicle was last seen in the Fruitvale area on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Struthers is described as Caucasian, 6’1 tall, 180 lbs, with blue eyes, and light brown/gray hair. (see attached photograph)

Struthers is known to be violent and may be in possession of weapons. Do not attempt to approach or apprehend Struthers.
