On Friday, May 10, 2024 at 10:16 am, Williams Lake RCMP responded to Columneetza Junior Secondary School where it was reported that one student had bear sprayed another student.

The bear spray got into the vents of the school resulting in several people suffering minor irritation to the eyes. The school was evacuated as a result. EHS attended to provided medical treatment to those affected. There were no other reported injuries.

The suspect youth had fled the area and out of an abundance of caution, the nearby elementary school was placed on a hold and secure. The youth has since been located and apprehended and the hold and secure has been lifted.

We believe this to be a targeted incident and there is no further risk to the public said Insp Rob Lake, OIC Williams Lake Detachment. The investigation is ongoing.
