File # 2023-4043

Chronic shoplifters accused of multiple counts of theft arrested by West Shore RCMP.

Between January and March of 2024, West Shore RCMP investigated 4 reports of shoplifting from Walmart located at 860 Langford Parkway, all involving the same two suspects. On each occasion, the suspects loaded up hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise and left the store without paying, with the latest incident taking place on March 1.

On March 1, the complainant notified police right way while the suspects were still in the Walmart parking lot pushing a cart full of unpaid merchandise toward their vehicle. West Shore RCMP Frontline and Crime Reduction officer’s located and arrested the suspects and recovered approximately $1000 worth of stolen merchandise in the cart.

Further, Crime Reduction Unit officers executed a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle and seized just over 2 ounces of drugs suspected to be a combination of cocaine and methamphetamine.

A 50-year-old woman and 58-year-old man were arrested for multiple counts of theft under $5000 and were released on an Undertaking with an upcoming court date in May. The investigation is ongoing and drug charges are also being considered.

If you witness suspicious or criminal activity it’s essential to call police and report it right away. Do not attempt to stop the suspect(s) on your own as this could be dangerous. In the latest shoplifting incident with this pair of suspects, police were called immediately and were able to arrest them before they got away, said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.

From January 1st - Dec 31 2023, West Shore RCMP investigated 514 reports of shoplifting under $5000 in the West Shore as compared to 400 for the same time period last year, that’s a 29% increase in shoplifting. The Crime Reduction Unit continues to focus it’s efforts on addressing shoplifting in the West Shore. Read our previous release here.
