On May 9, 2023, the retirement home staff produced video surveillance images of the suspect and provided them to SEU. SEU recognized the suspect and conducted checks throughout Maple Ridge including sharing pictures of the suspect with a community partner at a local community resource centre.

On May 10, 2023, the community partner contacted Ridge Meadows RCMP advising that the suspect was seen near a local leisure centre at which point SEU attended and arrested the suspect.

SEU verified that the suspect was the person captured on video surveillance and were able to determine the location of the stolen statue.

Ridge Meadows RCMP is always happy to have the opportunity to return a special item to a person in the community. We encourage the public to immediately report incidents to police as it gives us the best chance at recovering stolen property, says Sergeant Chris Kelly.

Charges are pending against the suspect and no further details are available at this time.

Ridge Meadows RCMP SEU would like to extend thanks to community partners and staff at the retirement home for their assistance.
