North Vancouver RCMP is requesting assistance from the public in an effort to further their investigation into vandalism that occurred to a rainbow crosswalk in North Vancouver.

On August 2, 2022, Police were advised of the vandalism to the crosswalk, which is located at the intersection of 14th St. and Lonsdale Ave. The vandalism, which consisted of a spray-painted message conveying anti-Pride sentiments, was quickly repaired by the City of North Vancouver. North Vancouver RCMP commenced an investigation and have worked to gather evidence in an effort to identity the suspect.

RCMP are releasing CCTV images of a suspect and vehicle that were captured in the vicinity at the time the mischief was committed. They are asking anyone who may recognize the vehicle, or who may have any information about this crime, to contact North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote file #22-19179.

We have absolutely no tolerance for behaviour that seeks to marginalize, belittle, or intimidate members of our LGBTQ2S+ community, and we will do everything we can to investigate hate crimes and hate motivated incidents, in order to see those responsible held to account, said Constable Mansoor Sahak of North Vancouver RCMP. We have been working closely with the North Shore Pride Alliance to provide any support they need. Thankfully, the City worked quickly to remove the spray paint, but for anyone who has been negatively impacted by this incident, RCMP victim services supports are available, he said. Anyone looking for support can contact North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and ask for the Victim Services Unit.
