North Vancouver RCMP are providing an update to a previous release involving a hit and run and RCMP officer.
On February 09, 2019 North Vancouver RCMP were conducting speed enforcement westbound on Highway #1 west of Westview Drive in North Vancouver. Officers observed a motorcycle travelling at 130 Km/h in a posted 80 Km/h zone. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop by motioning the rider to pull over. The motorcycle slowed to a near stop and then accelerated toward the officer, striking him. The motorcycle sped away at a high rate of speed.
The North Vancouver RCMP Traffic unit and Serious Crime unit worked diligently to gather evidence and identify the driver. They were able to use social media posts to obtain the identity of the rider and execute several search warrants, and subsequently obtained video from the rider’s helmet which had captured the entire incident.
The officer involved was transported to local hospital where he was treated and released. The officer still has lingering effects of the injuries from that day.
On August 31, 2022, Mark Daniel Webber was sentenced in North Vancouver Provincial Court, for willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer and dangerous operation of a conveyance.
Webber was sentenced to a 6-month conditional sentence order with 11 conditions including house arrest for the duration of the order, 100 community service hours, an 18 month driving prohibition, and a $200 victim surcharge.
This incident highlights the dangers of uniform policing and the excellent collaborative work done by North Van officers to gather evidence and present it to the BC Prosecution Service,
said Staff Sergeant Steve Hoivik, Acting Operations Support Officer.
We would also like to thank the public who assisted in providing crucial evidence in furthering this investigation,
said Cst. Mansoor SAHAK, Media Relations Officer for North Vancouver RCMP.
