Today marks the beginning of National Police Week – a seven-day celebration of the connections between police and the community we serve.

This week represents an opportunity to emphasize how police officers are both members of the community we live in, and members of the police community we work in. This year, we recognize the connection between the police and Canadians, and the importance of understanding one another.

True understanding means eliminating assumptions and attitudes and making way for open and constructive conversations balanced with active listening. Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued, allowing all parties to derive strength from the relationship. This year, we celebrate our efforts to be connected to our communities.

"North Vancouver is a unique community, a place where diversity is celebrated and inclusion is embedded in how people live and work," said Superintendent William Yee, officer in charge of North Vancouver RCMP. "Police week is a chance for us to re-commit to our pledge of being an inclusive police service, and to build an organizational culture characterized by respect for the diversity of our community and our people."
