Welcome to the Mission RCMP Community Connection for January 13 – 19, 2025

Here’s a snapshot of some of the work we did that week:

Calls of interest:

Two excessive speeders were stopped on January 13. In the morning, Mission RCMP were conducting speed enforcement along Lougheed Highway in Deroche near Husband Road. A westbound vehicle was determined to be travelling at 135 km/hr in the 80 km/hr zone. The grey Mazda 3 was impounded for 7 days, and the 29-year-old male driver was issued a ticket for excessive speed. That afternoon, an officer with Mission RCMP’s Traffic Services unit was conducting speed enforcement on Cedar Street near McRae Avenue. A northbound vehicle was pulled over for driving at 111 km/hr in the 50 km/hr zone. The 17-year-old male driver was issued a ticket for excessive speed, and his grey Lexus was also impounded for 7 days.

Shortly before 1 am on January 17, Mission RCMP received a report of a possible break and enter in progress at an abandoned property on Dewdney Trunk Road near Dalke Avenue. Officers attended and determined that the people there were lawfully allowed on the property; however, police determined that one of the males present had previously been linked to a prior serious assault with weapon, and also had a knife on him contrary to the conditions of a prior Release Order. The 41-year-old from Mission was arrested and held for Court.

A car-jacking occurred on Melburn Drive near D’Herbomez Drive on the night of January 17. A resident just arrived home around 11:45 pm when a male walked up to him, threatened to bear spray him, took his keys, and stole his car – a black 2008 Honda Accord. Officers located the car a short time later on 14th Avenue, but it fled from police. Soon afterwards, the vehicle was located abandoned on Osprey Street at Teal Street.  The victim was not injured, and no one has been arrested at this time.

An electronics store on 1st Avenue near James Street was broken into around 7 am on January 19. Police arrived to find that the glass front door had been smashed. Multiple cell phones and laptops had been stolen. The investigation is ongoing, and Mission RCMP are asking any potential witnesses to call police.

Shortly before 1:45 pm on January 16, a driver lost control of his older grey Nissan Pathfinder at the intersection of Cedar Street and McRae Avenue. The Pathfinder wrapped around a utility pole and landed on top of a fire hydrant, requiring City of Mission staff to attend to shut off water to the hydrant. After the crash, the 23-year-old male driver walked away from the scene. Fortunately, witnesses kept an eye on the man, and directed police to his location a couple of blocks away. The man had a strong odour of liquor on his breath and displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol. He was arrested for impaired driving, and transported to hospital for a medical assessment. An impaired driving investigation is ongoing. No other vehicles were involved in the collision, and no one else was injured.

Around 5 pm on January 16, an apparent road rage incident led to a collision between a Ford F-450 and a Chevrolet Suburban. Both vehicles had been northbound on Cedar Street near 7th Avenue, when one vehicle reportedly prevented the other from changing lanes, then cut off the other driver. Contact was made between both vehicles, and the Suburban ended up colliding with a utility pole. The Suburban’s driver was transported to hospital with minor injuries, while the other driver did not report any injuries. The driver of the Ford was issued a ticket for driving without consideration. Drivers are reminded that road rage is never the best solution to frustration on the roads. If it is safe to do so, pull over, let the other driver carry on, and report the incident to police if needed.
