Welcome to the Mission RCMP Community Connection for the week of November 27 – December 3, 2023

Here’s a snapshot of some of the work we did that week:

Calls of interest:

Around 4:30 am on November 28, a resident reported a break and enter in-progress to an underground parkade to an apartment building on 3rd Avenue. One offender managed to pry open an entry door and gain access to the underground parkade, however after breaking into several vehicles in the parkade, he found he couldn’t actually get out. While he worked at breaking out of the parkade, his accomplices patiently waited outside in their vehicle. Mission RCMP arrived and arrested the two people in the vehicle – a 55-year-old man from Vancouver, and a 35-year-old woman from Abbotsford. While officers were arresting them, the man in the parkade managed to flee and has not yet been located, however all are well-known to police, and their vehicle was seized for further investigation.

About 60 metres of utility wires were stolen from the 9300 block of Manzer Street, Mission on the morning of November 30. Anyone aware of suspicious activity on Manzer Street is asked to call Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161, and quote file 23-14476.

Three panel vans were stolen in Mission over the past week. A white 2004 Ford panel van, without any markings, was stolen from Sumac Place in the early morning hours of December 1. A white 2001 Ford panel van was stolen from 7th Avenue near Taulbut Street on December 2 around 11 pm. That one had the markings of RC Kitchens on the passenger side. Finally, a white 2007 Ford panel van was stolen from the 32800 block of 6th Avenue during the late morning or early afternoon of December 3. That one had a roof rack with two orange ladders on it. If you have information about any of these, please call Mission RCMP.

On the evening of December 3, Mission RCMP received a report of a vehicle that had driven up onto the sidewalk on 7th Avenue, and came to rest near the intersection of 7th Avenue and Welton Street. Police arrived to find the driver still behind the wheel. The driver claimed that he had gone out to pickup food, but the man’s slurred speech and red eyes suggested the man had been drinking. The car’s position – angled partially into a driveway with the back end sticking out onto the roadway – was another clue that impairment was a factor. The driver failed a roadside screening device test, confirming his impairment, and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day impound.

On the afternoon of December 1, police were notified of 30 empty boxes of Reactine in amongst some blackberry bushes in the 8000 block of Stave Lake Street. An officer attended and located the boxes in the field of a vacant property. They appeared to have been discarded, likely after being stolen from a pharmacy. Mission RCMP are currently on the lookout for a thief that does not have itchy red eyes or a runny nose, and has not sneezed for a very long time.
