The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 400 calls for service from Friday July 14, to 9 a.m. on Monday July 17, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Police presence in Valleyview

2023-25065

Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were in the area of Owl Road Friday afternoon in response to a weapons report.

On July 14, 2023, around 2:36 p.m., police were called to the area at Valleyview Drive, where a person was allegedly threatened with a machete after he requested the suspect leave private property. Officers attended and arrested one man, then later released him as part of the investigation.

The suspect with the weapon was not located, but is described as a Caucasian man, approximately 35 years old, bald, with tattoos on his arms, wearing no shirt and blue jeans, and riding a bike. Assault investigation, man charged

A man was arrested and held for a bail hearing after police were called to an assault report Friday afternoon.

On July 14, 2023, around 3:20 p.m., frontline officers responded to a third-party report that a woman was being assaulted at an unknown location. Through the investigation, police were able to locate the victim in rural Kamloops. With the assistance of the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment and the Police Dog Service, a suspect was taken into custody.

He was held for court and charged with mischief, three counts of assault including by choking; suffocating, or strangling; and forcible confinement, then released on an order which includes conditions and a court date.

Business break and enter

Police are investigating a break-in at a commercial address on the 700-block of Laval Crescent this weekend.

On Friday July 14, 2023, around 10:20 p.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment was contacted regarding the break-in, which was believed to have occurred within the preceding three hours. Two drones and an IPad were among the items taken.

Break and enter

Police are investigating a break and enter at a service garage on Junction Road.

On July 16, 2023, around 3:40 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers received a report of a break-in that occurred sometime over the weekend.

Historic explosive removed

An old military mortar has officially been decommissioned, after police received an inquiry related to its presence in a residence on Patricia Avenue.

On July 16, 2023 at approximately 7:45 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP officer was advised of an old military mortar that had become a family heirloom. Its owner was seeking information about how to deal with the piece.

Following consultation with the Explosives Disposal Unit, officers secured the mortar and evacuated the house.

A Canadian Forces team attended the residence and safely removed the explosive.

Drugs, break-in, and mischief arrest

Fentanyl, cocaine, and meth were seized after proactive patrols led Kamloops police officers to a break and enter.

On July 16, 2023, around 9:40 p.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was on the 500-block of Seymour Street when he observed a person inside a fenced and locked area on private property. As part of the investigation, a Kamloops man was arrested for break and enter, mischief, obstruction, and drug trafficking. Approximately 70 grams of suspected illegal drugs were seized.

The man was released with a court date and conditions, with charge recommendation anticipated as part of the assessment process. The drug investigation is ongoing.
