File # 2023-24436

The Kamloops RCMP Detachment is hoping to connect with a jogger who was wearing fluorescent yellow shorts, as part of an ongoing sexual assault investigation.

Last week, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment requested information and warned the public after police received a report of a sexual assault on the walking path between Strathcona Terrace and St. Paul Street West. The incident occurred on Sunday July 9, 2023, shortly after 9 p.m., when a man approached a woman from behind and grabbed her in a sexual nature. An altercation ensued during which the victim was able to get free, and the man departed toward Strathcona Terrace.

Since then, the investigation has been progressing well and police anticipate it will continue to advance toward the charge assessment phase in the near future, said Superintendent Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment. No similar assault reports have been received since last Sunday, and we continue to encourage anyone with information that may be related to please contact police as soon as possible.

Investigators are also looking to connect with a woman who was jogging that evening around 9 p.m., in the area. She was wearing florescent yellow shorts, a black sports top, and pink sweatband, travelling toward Powers Road from the St. Paul Street West pathway.

If you are the woman, or someone who saw anything suspicious in the area that could help further the investigation, please contact police as soon as possible.

Those with information are asked to call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-24436.
