The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 427 calls for service from Friday June 30, to 9 a.m. on Monday July 3, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Drugs seized, suspects arrested

2023-23257

A Kamloops man has a court date scheduled as part of a drug trafficking investigation.

On July 1, 2023, around 12:50 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were speaking with the occupants of a vehicle on the 600-block of Brentwood Avenue when they observed what appeared to be illegal drugs. A man and a woman in the vehicle were arrested. Approximately 300 grams of suspected drugs packaged in a manner consistent with drug trafficking were located and seized.

The woman was released on scene. The man received a court date and conditions, with charge recommendations anticipated as part of the ongoing investigation.

Weapons threat at the park

Multiple police officers attended Riverside Park on Saturday for a report of a woman threatening to stab people.

On July 1, 2023, round 8:25 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers responded to the 100-block of Lorne Street in response to the call, where they located and arrested a suspect. A knife was seized as part of the investigation.

The woman was lodged in cells to sober up safely and prevent continuation of the offence. She was later released without process.

Assault downtown

Patrols downtown led to a police officer stopping an assault in progress.

On July 2, 2023, around 2:45 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was in the area of Seymour Street and 3rd Avenue when he observed a taxi stopped to pick up clients, and a man run up to the cab and assault someone. The officer arrested the suspect. The victim was treated by ambulance for non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was later released with conditions and a court date, with charge recommendations anticipated as part of the assessment and approval process.

Assault on Tranquille

Police are investigating after a security guard reported getting assaulted on the North Shore this weekend.

On July 2, 2023 around 3 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the corner of Renfrew Avenue and Tranquille Road, where a security guard reported he had been making patrols and moving people along, when a person became violent. A female youth allegedly attempted to strike him with a skateboard and a struggle occurred during which he was injured.

The victim was transported to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect was described as a female, approximately 5’4, with dark hair, a grey hoodie, and black shorts.

Break and enter in Heffley

Police are looking for information related to a break and enter at a store in Heffley Creek.

On July 3, 2023, police received a report of an alarm that was activated around 4 a.m. on the 7000-block of Yellowhead Highway. Upon attendance, officers discovered the front door was smashed, and items, including cigarettes, were stolen. Video surveillance captured footage of a white truck with a boat rack on top, as well as a man wearing flips flops and a woman in black. They departed northbound on the highway.
