File # 2023-23584

A police presence in Aberdeen is cleared now, but the investigation into the discovery of a pipe bomb is ongoing.

On July 3, 2023, around 7:35 p.m., the Kamloops RCMP Detachment received a report of a suspicious package on the 900-block of Greystone Crescent. Officers were dispatched shortly after and attended the scene, where they located what appeared to be a homemade explosive. The road was blocked and a safety parameter was established, but residents were not required to evacuate.

Earlier today, the RCMP Explosive Device Unit attended the area, examined the package, and confirmed it was indeed a pipe bomb, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. They were able to safely remove the device and the area has since reopened to the public.

Residents who may have security or dash camera footage, or anyone with information that may be related to this investigation, are asked to please contact police as soon as possible.

Perhaps someone was walking by and looked like they dropped a bag or another item; maybe a vehicle was parked in the area that could be related – any information available that hasn’t already been provided could be helpful in furthering the investigation, said Cpl. Evelyn.

Those with information are asked to please call the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2023-23584.
