The Kamloops RCMP Detachment responded to approximately 404 calls for service from Friday May 19, to 9 a.m. on Monday May 22, 2023. Below are some highlights from those reports.

Break-in report: man charged

A Kamloops man is facing charges related to mischief, breach probation, and possession of break-in instruments on the North Shore this weekend.

On Sunday May 21, 2023, around 8:35 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended a commercial location on the 100-block of Oak Road, where a security camera captured video of a person who appeared to be attempting to break-in.

Officers located a suspect nearby, who was also wanted on a warrant for failure to comply with an undertaking. He was arrested as part of the investigation. A 25-year-old Kamloops man was held in-custody for a bail hearing and remanded until his next court appearance date, scheduled for next week.

Stolen motorcycle located, man arrested

A report of a stolen motorcycle has led to charges for a Kamloops man.

On May 19, 2023, just before 1 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were advised of a motorcycle that had been stolen from Kelly Douglas Road sometime after May 9. Members of the detachment’s Crime Reduction Team (CRU) located the bike on Westoby Road, with a suspect nearby.

A Kamloops man is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, breach of probation, and Motor Vehicle Act offences for driving while prohibited. He was remanded in custody until his next court date, scheduled for next week.

Overlander Bridge, mental health apprehension

A person was taken to hospital for assessment and care after police were called to a report on the Overlander Bridge.

On May 20, 2023, around 9:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers attended the area and located a person who appeared to be in emotional distress. As the person attempted to climb the bridge’s railing, officers pulled them back over and safely onto the ground.

The person was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to hospital for assessment and care.
