Police investigating series of vehicle mischiefs

One man was arrested for mischief to vehicle Sunday morning, but police are still looking for information related to other recent similar reports.

On Sunday May 14, 2023, around 6:38 a.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to a commercial location on the 600-block of Notre Dame Drive, after a security guard reported seeing a man damage a new vehicle. The employee provided police with a suspect description and location, and a man was arrested nearby.

As part of the investigation, it was discovered the suspect was also wanted on an unendorsed warrant for assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. The suspect remains in custody for the warrants, while officers continue to work on the charge recommendation process for assessment and consideration.

Other damaged vehicles were also discovered at the same location recently. On Saturday May 13, 2023, around 11:20 p.m., police were alerted to 12 vehicles that had been vandalised at the same Notre Dame address, and to another 19 on Wednesday May 10. The investigations into those reports and if they are connected to Sunday’s arrest are ongoing.

Across town on the North Shore, eight vehicles were similarly damaged at a commercial location on the 1000-block of 8th Street in Kamloops.

We are releasing a suspect image in relation to the North Shore investigation, but at this time, it’s unknown if this incident is related to any of the others, said Cpl. Evelyn.

Businesses and residents in the area are asked to please check their security and dash camera footage to see if anything was captured that could help identify a suspect or person of interest.
