Coquitlam RCMP seek video after man attempted to harm emergency responders

Coquitlam RCMP are seeking additional information after a male suspect attempted to harm emergency responders.
On Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 9:50 a.m. Coquitlam RCMP were called to assist BC Ambulance Services and Coquitlam Fire and Rescue for a medial emergency near Westwood Street and Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam. While officers were on scene, a male brandished a weapon and attempted to harm emergency personnel.
The suspect man then fled from Police on foot.
The suspect ran through alleyways, parking lots and backyards as he travelled east along Lougheed Highway from Coquitlam into Port Coquitlam before heading north towards Patricia Avenue.
Police later located the suspect near Patricia Avenue and Hastings Street in Port Coquitlam.
We understand that the heavy police presence in the area of Hastings Street and Patricia Avenue in Port Coquitlam, on Sunday, June 30, 2024 caused concern with local residents,
said Media Relations Officer, Corporal Alexa Hodgins. We would like to thank the public for their assistance and understanding as we searched for the suspect.
Coquitlam RCMP is asking anyone who may have witnessed a person on their property without permission between 9:50 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to contact police. Investigators are also seeking video surveillance in the area north of Lougheed Highway between Clayton Street and Hastings Street to Patricia Avenue in Port Coquitlam.
The suspect can be described as:
- Caucasian male
- 30 years old
- Slim build
- 5’10 tall
- Blonde hair
The suspect was wearing:
- Blue jacket
- Black jeans
- Black shirt
We believe that the suspect was purposely evading police and may have dropped clothing items during the process,
added Corporal Alexa Hodgins. We are asking anyone who may have located clothing or recovered items in their backyards or alleyways to contact the Coquitlam RCMP. We are also seeking dash-cam or video surveillance from the area to piece together the entirety of the event.
