Burnaby RCMP respond to early morning collision that has left 1 person deceased and 2 in critical condition

Burnaby RCMP is investigating an early morning collision that has left 1 person deceased and 2 others in critical condition.

On Sunday, February 18, 2024, just before 3:45 a.m., Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision eastbound on Hwy 1 near the Sprott Street off ramp.

It was reported that a vehicle, with four passengers, was travelling eastbound and had pulled over and stopped on the side of the highway near the Sprott Street off ramp. An SUV, also travelling eastbound, then struck the vehicle.

When police arrived, they located one female passenger deceased. Three other female passengers were transported to the hospital, with two of them in critical condition.

The driver of the second vehicle was released from the scene with minor injuries. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the collision.

Police have spoken to several witnesses, but are asking anyone that may have dash cam video of the incident to please come forward and speak to investigators.
