BC RCMP starts off the new year with a new troop of Experienced Police Officers

BC RCMP kicked off the new year and conducted a virtual swearing in ceremony for fifteen newly hired experienced police officers last week.

The experienced police officers join the BC RCMP, coming from law enforcement agencies across the country. The officers bring with them skills and experience ranging from 3 to 36 years of service.

Members of the first 2024 EPO troop (Troop #7) will be assigned to:

Frontline Policing (Westshore, Sooke, Mission, Kamloops, Kelowna)
Federal and Serious Organized Crime
Pacific Shiprider Program
BC Highway Patrol
Integrated National Security Enforcement Team
Emergency Response Team
Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, B.C.
Explosives Disposal Unit

I look forward to what these talented officers bring to the RCMP family, says Superintendent Derek Thibodeau, Officer in Charge of the Career Development and Resource Section for the BC RCMP. All fifteen officers have a range of skills and experience which makes our organization stronger. I welcome anyone thinking about patching over to begin the next chapter of their career with the BC RCMP.

Following the swearing-in ceremony, members of EPO Troop #7 travelled to the RCMP Training Academy in Regina, SK for an engaging 3-day onboarding trip. The officers learned about the history of the RCMP while also having the opportunity to practice drill and get fitted for their general duty and iconic Red Serge uniforms.

Next month, the troop of Experienced Police Officers will attend a three-week training course at the Pacific Region Training Centre in Chilliwack, BC. The training will cover RCMP interviewing techniques, policy and procedures and tactical training. The officers will begin their first posts upon completion of the training.
