File # 2024-27

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been deployed to a day-time shooting in Coquitlam that left one man dead.

Background:

On January 6, 2024, at approximately 4:14 p.m., Coquitlam RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Westwood Street and Glen Drive in Coquitlam. Frontline officers attended the scene and located one man suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. On January 7, 2024, IHIT was deployed and took conduct of the investigation and began working closely in partnership with the Coquitlam RCMP, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).

IHIT investigators have identified the victim as a 21-year old man from Coquitlam. Out of respect for the family’s wish for privacy at this time, the victim’s name will not be released publicly.

This was a targeted shooting that happened in a busy area, with no regard for the safety of others, says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. We’re working closely with our partners in Coquitlam to determine what connection, if any, this has to the other recent shooting.

IHIT is asking any witnesses or anyone who was in the area of Westwood Street and Glen Drive, between 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. with dash-camera video to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
