On June 1, 2023 at approximately 1:30pm, BC Highway Patrol – Terrace/Smithers will be conducting a mock collision demonstration at Caledonia High School in Terrace, BC. This demonstration will take place in partnership with Terrace RCMP, BC Ambulance Services and the Terrace/Thornhill Fire Departments. Grade 11 and 12 drama students will have the opportunity to participate first-hand as actors in the mock scenario.

Sergeant Shawn McLaughlin of BC Highway Patrol – Terrace/Smithers said Our intent through this demonstration is to bring attention to the consequences of choices relevant to young drivers such as impaired driving, distracted driving, and lack of occupant restraints. We are excited to be working on this collaborative effort with the school and students. It is important for us as first responders to be proactive and educate young people rather than being reactive in our functions as is unfortunately often the case.

BC Highway Patrol hopes that this demonstration gives perspective to our young people in that they become more aware of the devastating results of poor driving choices. It is an important example of how we are making our highways safer together.

Any media questions regarding the event can be directed to Sergeant Shawn McLaughlin at 250-638-7438.
