Sooke man arrested twice in two weeks for drug and weapons offences

On January 14, 2023, a Sooke RCMP investigation culminated with the execution of a search warrant in the 6600 Block of Sooke Road, in Sooke B.C.

On the property, police searched a fortified cabin where they located approximately 2 kilograms of controlled substances including suspected cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl. Officers also located and seized 4 unlawfully possessed automatic firearms and an assortment of other replica firearms, prohibited devices, and drug trafficking-related paraphernalia.

34-year-old Sooke resident, Ryan Strom, was taken into custody and held to appear before a Judge. He is charged with 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, and Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm.

Soon after Mr. Strom’s release, the Sooke RCMP, with the assistance of the West Shore RCMP, initiated another investigation that resulted in the execution of a search warrant in the 7100 Block of West Coast Road, on January 26, 2023. Inside this residence, police located a large assortment of prohibited devices including a significant number of high-capacity prohibited firearm magazines, conducted energy weapons, prohibited knives and a large cache of ammunition.

Again, Ryan Strom was taken into custody and held to appear before a Judge. As a result of this second investigation, Mr. Strom is now also charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Careless Storage of a Firearm and Breach of Release Order. Mr. Strom remains in custody pending his next court appearance set for February 28, 2023.

According to Acting Sooke RCMP Detachment Commander, Sergeant Kevin Shaw, These circumstances, particularly in close proximity to local elementary schools, are of the highest priority to the Sooke RCMP. Great work was done by investigators to get these dangerous drugs and weapons off our streets.
