Find my iPhone app leads police straight to the suspect who stole the phone

In mid-November the West Shore RCMP received a report of a phone that had been stolen from the Elements Casino located at 1708 Island Hwy, View Royal. A casino goer accidentally left their phone at one of the slot machines only to return and discover it missing.

Police investigated and obtained video surveillance showing a suspect stealing the phone from the casino. Officers were able to identify the suspect from the video, while the victim was able to use the Find My iPhone App to locate its exact whereabouts.

On December 10, West Shore RCMP officers with assistance from Victoria Police Department, executed a search warrant for the stolen property which was located inside a Victoria home.

The iPhone was recovered and West Shore RCMP arrested a 19-year-old male for theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property under$5000. He has been released on an Undertaking with a court date in the new year.
