One man arrested after attempted robbery

Maple Ridge, B.C. – Ridge Meadows RCMP have arrested one man involved in a daytime robbery yesterday.

On August 17, at around 5:30 PM, police received multiple 911 reports of what appeared to be a robbery in progress at a business located in Valley Fair Mall prompting an immediate and large police response. Witness reports stated two men had entered a store and attempted to break a display cabinet with a hammer. At one point during the incident a noxious substance, described by witnesses as bear spray, was deployed by the suspects. Maple Ridge Fire and BC Emergency Health Services assisted a security guard and several bystanders on scene however, no other injuries occurred.

A 19 year-old Edmonton man was arrested and is being held for court proceedings.

Initial reports indicated that two men entered the business while two other men waited outside however police are still trying to determine the actual number of suspects and police are interested in speaking with anyone who has further information.

The Ridge Meadows RCMP’s Street Enforcement Unit has conduct of the file and no further details are available at this time.
