File # 2022-29007

A man is in custody facing seven charges following an armed robbery attempt last night.

On Aug. 18, 2022, around 8:30 p.m., Kamloops RCMP frontline officers were called to the 200-block of Tranquille Road for a report of a masked man with a shotgun entering a storefront.

As police were en route, two civilians intervened, disarmed, and detained the suspect until police arrived and took him into custody.

Luckily, no one was physically hurt in this high-risk situation and the man was taken into custody without further incident, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. In situations as such, we always have and continue to encourage residents to contact police officers when possible, who are trained for situations like these, rather than getting directly involved due to the risks attached.

James Robert Levi Black, 27, of Kamloops, is charged with seven offences, including robbery with a firearm, having a firearm for dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, obstructing a peace officer in the execution of their duties, among others.

Anyone who witnessed or has information related to this investigation is asked to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2022-29007.
